Emile Walter was born in Alsace when this province was still German. Wishing to sail, he came to Le Havre and went to the town hall to obtain his "reintegration" into French nationality. Emile's mother suffered greatly having a French soldier son (Emile) and her two other sons, German soldiers. His wife, Virginie Walter (née Bellmont) worked in a factory manufacturing shells during the war. These …
