Image of Jean Calvin
The movement of denominational rupture spread and continued. A generation after Martin Luther, Jean Calvin, a Frenchman jurist exiled to Switzerland because of religious persecution, developed his own doctrine in his Institution de la religion chrétienne. Calvinism became the dominant Reformed denomination in France.
