The koto is a traditional costume that originated in Suriname and was invented by slave owners and their wives to dress their slaves 'modestly'. The costume consists of a koto (skirt), jaki (jacket) and angisa (headscarf). The religion to which the slave owner belonged could be seen in the costume.
