Porträt eines Italieners

As in the portrait of an Italian woman, here too Hänßler permits us look for eye contact with the sitter. In the dark, the eyes lie hidden under the shadow of the hat and only allow eye contact upon closer inspection. It is possible that the painting was likewise made during Hänßler's time as a student in Karlsruhe.
