Boy’s Coat with Woven Floral Motifs
The flaring panels of this boy’s coat are typical of the third quarter of the 18th century. Not only the cut, but also the fabric of this coat is in keeping with fashion for men. Fine floral and foliate motifs in purple and green are woven into the white rep silk. In the 18th century this kind of fabric was woven especially for men; they had coats and even entire suits made of it.
