My grandfather's story
I have a photograph of my family. In it you can see my grandfather in military dress. He was conscripted into the New Zealand army.
He went to New Zealand when he was 7, in 1901, he was plucked from the field he was working in in Farranfore, County Kerry. Some of his uncles were already there, buying and development land, cutting native bush and clearing it. One of the uncles had no children, and…
