Hammer, stonemasonry
This is a medium weight hammer for use with a chisel on Portland stone. It has a wooden handle and a metal head stamped ‘Collyer Maker Cast Steel’, and was made by Collyer of Lambeth in 1938. It is one of a collection of stonemasonry tools used by Mr Ben Hingston, a London stonemason who stopped working in the practical side of the trade in 1958.
