plaque; casting; stage of manufacture
Modern copy of the first part of the brass casting process used in Ancient Benin to make wall plaques, which hung in the king’s palace to record historical events. This stage is not normally seen as it is normally destroyed in the making process.
Cast completely covered in earth, in wooden base. No detail and damaged.
