Shaft of a Cross

Part of the shaft of a free standing cross from the fourteenth or fifteenth century. The cross depicts probably a bishop, his right hand raised in the act of benediction, his left holding a pastoral staff. He wears a mitre and is dressed in an alb and chasuble, the latter decorated with the Y-shaped embroidery often seen on western sculptures. Although the cross-head has been found, and remains on…
