A first pan-European election campaign
Inspiring European citizens to use their vote
In anticipation of the first European elections, transnational political organisations started to form across the Member States.
April 1974 : The Confederation of Socialist Parties of the European Community was established.
March 1976 : The Federation of Liberal and Democratic Parties of the European Community held their constituent congress in Stuttgart.
July 1976 : The European People’s Party was formally established in Luxembourg.
In addition to the efforts made by the political parties, the European Parliament launched a campaign to encourage people to vote and provide them with objective information about the way in which the European Community worked.
