Parchment manufacturing

At an old factory in Alphen, parchment is made in a harness tannery. The cowhides are washed and rinsed in tanning vats, placed in a lime bath for three to six weeks, and scraped off on a tree. The skins go into the lime bath again for several weeks, after which they are stretched in a stretch frame. Finally, the uneven edges are cut off.
