Berber
The term 'berber' refers to various groups of people living across several countries in Northern Africa. It dates back to antiquity and appears in Arabic manuscripts by 900 AD. Many people, however, believe it to be a European invention related to the term ‘barbarian’. While the term is still used by many people who self-identify as Berber, it is rapidly falling out of favour and more and more people prefer to refer to themselves as ‘Amazigh.’
